Korean War Memorial Project

Project value: $750,000 design and construction of the memorial

Research:

Fieldwork was undertaken in South Korea (June 2017) by Kirsten Day, Simon Jackson, and Jo Kuys to look at the culture of memorials, and an examination of appropriate symbols, materials, and narrative. Key projects visited were the War Memorial of Korea (Seoul), The Australian War Memorial (Gapyeong), United Nations Memorial Cemetery (Busan). Additional sites included national Palace, National Museum of Contemporary History, Hongik University Graduate Exhibition, Insadong Craft precinct, Namsongol Hanok Heritage Village, and Memory Site at Namsam Park
